Check out this awesome new music video from Brother Ali for his track “Home Away from Home” featuring Bambu & MaLLy!!!
Here are a few words about the track from Brother Ali:
“We’re very excited and grateful to be headed out on our Home Away From Home Tour with Bambu, MaLLy and Last Word. Anyone who’s experienced my headlining tours knows that I like to have one DJ and one host for the entire evening and I choose my support artists very carefully. If you’re not up on any of our tour family’s music, please check them out so you’ll know how to appreciate them when we’re in your town. I also like to make a tour theme song with everyone in the crew to celebrate rolling out together. Please enjoy this track and we welcome your well wishes for safe travels and security for our loved one’s while we’re away”.

Hot off the fresh, Minnesota hiphop artist Sims of Doomtree just released his slick new album called “Field Notes” and it’s available for purchase here:
“The seven track project features Sims rapping his ass off over some huuuumongous beats from Cecil Otter, Paper Tiger, ICETEP, and Plain Ole Arson (Ryan Olson x Plain Ole Bill). For real, these are some of the best Sims songs ever written, and that’s saying a lot after the instant classic that was Bad Time Zoo”.

SIFU HOTMAN (Guante x deM atlaS x Rube) are back with their official debut album “Embrace the Sun” Been waiting on this a while now and I’m very please to say it’s offially available for purchase right here:
“Last year, Guante, deM atlaS and Rube got together to make a 3-song suite of sharp, uptempo hip hop. But since the release of that self-titled teaser, deM atlaS signed to indie-rap powerhouse Rhymesayers Entertainment and toured the country with Atmosphere, Guante went viral with multiple appearances on Upworthy and beyond, and Rube went back to the lab to attempt to out-boom bap himself. Now, the trio returns with their proper debut, “Embrace the Sun.”
For three artists so intent on thinking outside the box (Rube is best known for his jazz-sampling electro-swing compositions, Guante for his status as a two-time National Poetry Slam champion, and deM atlaS for his genre-defying alt-soul-hip-hop-sound) SIFU HOTMAN is a chance for all three to cut loose and simply make rap music for people who actually like rap music. Featuring venomous punchlines and constantly-shifting flows over some bone-cracking, bass-heavy beats, “Embrace the Sun” finds the revolutionary spirit in going back to the basics”.

Been waiting patiently on this one and I’m pleased to say the day has arrived!! St. Paul hiphop oufit, earlybirds. just dropped their brand new album “earlybirdrap.” available for free download right here:
Here’s a few words from earlybirds:
“This is not an “official” album….This is not a mixtape….This is a collection of songs that were never meant to be on the same project or in some cases never meant to release…..Since 2008 we have continued to bang out song after song and sometimes things get discarded or forgot about….On a late Friday night in 2014 we found half of this project lost and forgotten in the west end productions studio….The other part of this project was meant for a more funky upbeat album inspired by Cypress Hill, Funkdoobiest, and House of Pain. We are tired of sitting on these songs and it is time for them to fly!! We hope you enjoy!!! earlybirdrapshit”.

Portland hip-hop duo Jellyfish Brigade have teamed up with Minneapolis collective Polkadot Mayhem to release their debut full-length album “Diving Lessons” out now!
This is the Music video for an acoustic version of their track “Man the Riverboat” from the album featuring members of Fruition, Horsefeathers and Loud Hound!
“Diving Lessons details a two-year period in emcee Lucas Dix’s life that began as his best friend, Gavin Theory, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Theory and Dix began making music together as Hives Inquiry Squad in high school and moved to Portland from Wisconsin to pursue their artistic endeavors. Around the same time his best friend was diagnosed, Dix met a woman who introduced him to many of the scenic places Oregon is known for: the Cascade Mountain Range, Mt. Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, and the Pacific Ocean. These places, this new love, and the difficulties in supporting a dying friend set the backdrop, theme, and plot for the new Jellyfish Brigade album.
Producer Jeffrey Acciaioli (aka The Great Mundane) provides the soundtrack for Dix’s self-exploration with melodic, electronic beats that are sometimes as playful as a sunny day on the river. Other times, they are dark as a midnight hike through mountain fog. Dix’s stories describe the supernatural as normal and the ordinary as magical–detailing times of growth, happiness and hardship. Together, the duo created a debut album of hip hop songs with catchy, R&B infused hooks that explore the process of finding yourself while losing the people closest to you”.
It’s a truly incredible album right through that I’m sure a lot of us can sadly relate to all too well. You can feel the pain in in the words but it’s not without hope; finding purpose even despite all life has thrown your way and still push on because what you had is worth it.
Really digging it; go get a copy here:
