Sage Francis’ “Copper Gone” – Album Review + “Grace” Official Music Video Out Now!

Hey peeps..

So, recently we had one of our friends and non-do hiphop affiliate to take a listen to the new Sage Francis album “Copper Gone” and share their thoughts… This is what they had to say:

“With a ‘DIY or Die’ approach the HipHop veteran delivers a compelling, captivating classic for 2014. The album deals with the artist’s signature outlook on social and contemporary issues in and out of the HipHop scene, validating his ‘silverback gorilla status’ through cunning multi-tiered wordplay and melancholic undertones. The proclamation is that Sage is here to stay, and even though he professes ‘both sides of my bed are the wrong ones and I am always waking up’ he continues to arouse the minds of his fans and followers”.

and what an amazing album it is!

Sage also recently dropped this assiduous official music video for the track “Grace” from the album; it really does the track justice!!

ABOUT ULTRAVIOLET

“On UltravioletSadistik closes his eyes tight and reaches out towards the peripheries of perception through introspection and psychedelic escapism, transcribing the vivid images crawling on the dark purple walls of his Seattle studio. The day after he finished recording 2013’s critically acclaimed Flowers For My FatherSadistik (born Cody Foster) began writing the new record with a head full of acid, left field 60s & 70s cinema and palpable frustration with the world around him.
Falling somewhere on the spectrum between the confessionals of Atmosphere and dark heart of Cage, and inspired by the delivery and ethos of the legendary Eyedea, Seattle-based emcee Sadistik has been a force on the indie scene for the better part of a decade, opening for artists such as Lupe Fiasco and collaborating with the likes of Sage Francis, Astronautalis and Ceschi. He began Ultraviolet as an exercise in creativity, pushing himself to never take a day off and make the best album of his career for the second year in a row.
With production from SXMPLELIFE, Eric G, Maulskull and Kid Called Computer and guest shots fromEyedeaLotte KestnerTech N9neSticky Fingaz and Nacho PicassoUltraviolet peels back the layers behind Foster’s synesthesia (seeing sound as color or otherwise mixing of the senses) and reveals the colorful terrain just out of reach in the daytime when “the skies cry 365”. He details a shifting Pacific Northwest cloud cover while referencing everyone from Orwell to Burroughs and examining the self in the era of surveillance and diminishing returns.
Cult Leader” begins the album with an ominous banger emblematic of Sadistik’s finest, most nuanced writing. “1984” channels André 3000 in its opening bars before Sadistik abstractedly explores the omnipresence of big brother. “Cubic Zirconia” features interludes from Italian film icon Asia Argento and an urgent, melodic third verse harmonized with the vocals of Lotte Kestner. Eyedea delivers an eerily prophetic verse on “Chemical Burns” that reminds listeners just what a masterful lyricist and narrator of the human condition he was. Sadistik adopts a deft delivery on the track to complement that of his lost friend whose torch he proudly carries on through every album.
Ultraviolet is Sadistik’s unabashed nose dive into the subconscious mind, a three dimensional portrait painted in hues of psychosis and psychedelia. Drawing on his background in clinical psychology and cinematic predilections, he creates a richly layered world of his own and offers the listener a passing glimpse through the keyhole”.

Definitely one release you need to know about.

“Nausea. Disorienting. Anxious. Unsettled. It is hard to imagine better words for the debut release by post-noise rap pioneers Moodie Black. Like the concept of Nausea itself used in existential philosophies of Jean Paul Sartre, the album is a sonic confrontation with the beauty of an unsettled mood, a disconnection with what is everyday and common. Following up their 2013 self-titled E.P. that herald their mastery of integrating hip-hop styled rap with punishing noise, static, and industrial yet melodic soundscapes, Nausea offers audiences a different vision of what noise rap can be. Unlike the uptempo tracks found on their self-titled E.P. release (No Blood ft. Ceschi Ramos; Hipster Death; Last Griot ft. Dälek), Nausea reveals a more downtempo, near catatonic, dystopian, and beautiful mood. The band seems to have traded in raw, punishing static force, for more sophisticated ambient sounds and progressions. The album has a dark continuity and holds together well under its half-time rhythmic, head nod inducing pulses. Lyrics tell a story about the band’s frustrations with mass conformity, societal lack of sincerity, all while also paying homage to the transcendent quality of the human struggle as a meaningful one. Like the existential concept of Nausea itself, Moodie Black’s Nausea present sonic basic truths about human nature and existence. As its big beats, prodding rhythms, on point lyrical flows, wailing vocals, blissed out synth and dark guitars come crashing down upon us, Nausea upsets our everyday understanding of not only noise rap by shocking us into a new awareness about the genre, but also about what existence more generally, can be.
